On 26 June 1961, the Academy of Pedagogy was founded in Maribor. It was located in the Classical School (today’s Faculty of Law).
In 1978, the Academy was relocated to a new building at Koroška cesta 160, where it is still located today.
On 12 February 1986, the Academy of Pedagogy was renamed the Faculty of Pedagogy.
At the end of 2006, three new faculties were founded from the large Faculty of Education of the University of Maribor, namely the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor (FF UM), the Faculty of Education of the University of Maribor (PEF UM), and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Maribor (FNM UM).
In 1963, along with the establishment, growth and development of the Institution, a library was also founded. It was initially called the Library of the Academy of Pedagogy. In 1986, it was renamed the Faculty of Education Library.
In December 1988, the library became the fourth library in Slovenia to be included in the COBISS.SI system (Cooperative Online Bibliographic Systems and Services, Slovenia, PEFMB).
On 1 January 1994, the library was integrated into the COBISS2/Lending (PEFMB, library code 50317). In May 2001, the library was integrated into COBISS3, and since then we have been using all the segments we can (Cataloguing, Acquisition, Serials, Electronic Resources, Inventory, Lending, Interlibrary Loan and Application Management).
On 1 January 2007, the Faculty of Education of the University of Maribor Library (PEFMB) was renamed the Miklošič Library – FPNM, and became the parent library of the three faculties, a hidden feature in the acronym (FPNM). The library retained both its working acronym and the library code (PEFMB, 50317).
Organisationally, the collection (including materials from up to 31 December 2006) was transferred to the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor. All full-time library staff have signed a new employment contract with the University of Maribor’s Faculty of Arts. The faculties co-finance and pool the work of the library by internal agreement.
Currently, there are eight permanently employed librarians at the Miklošič Library – FPNM. The library collection comprises more than 160,000 items.
