Overview
Higher education offers students opportunities for personal development, careers, and active citizenship, as well as providing wider community opportunities for personal, social, artistic, cultural, and economic development. The Republic of Slovenia places higher education and scientific research at the very core of its ambitions for development. Our goal is to offer a high quality and diverse higher education environment that responds to the needs and expectations of society to produce a diverse workforce of well-educated, motivated and innovative professionals with high ethical standards.
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor offers 18 first cycle undergraduate study programmes with a duration of 3 academic years (6 semesters), which are equivalent to a total of 180 credit points (ECTS), namely:
- Single study programmes: 180 ECTS;
- Combined study programmes: 90 ECTS (mandatory pairing with another combined course study programme).
After completing the first cycle, students can continue their education at the Faculty of Arts and progress onto the second cycle study programmes.
Before the introduction of the Bologna system, different European study programmes taught different content and had different structures, making them difficult to compare. The creation of a unified structure of higher education in Europe has significantly increased transparency and comparability. This has also made it easier to compare and recognise qualifications, both in terms of undertaking further study in another European country, and for finding a job in the European labour market.
